Neighbourhood development framework

  • Project: Freeman Street, Grimsby
  • Client: North East Lincolnshire Council
  • Scale: Renewal of former main shopping area

Since falling into disrepair with the decline of the fishing industry, Freeman Street – formerly Grimsby’s main shopping area – has proven difficult to regenerate. North East Lincolnshire Council asked Lathams, along with commercial and regeneration partners, to develop a plan to renew the area.

The project took a number of criteria into consideration, including available resources, as well as the needs of the local community and business and retail occupiers.

The Freeman Street Market was a key part of the regeneration plans, designed to promote healthy eating, craft and trade skills development and training, and support for small business start ups.

Our partners included the local authority, the HCA, Shoreline Housing and local charity the Freeman.
