Putting the waterways at the heart of the action

  • Project: Water Taxi Route - London Olympics
  • Client: British Waterways London
  • Scale: 8kms of waterway corridor

In readiness for the highly successful 2012 Olympics, Lathams assisted British Waterways London in exploring the potential for an innovative water taxi route, linking the River Thames via Limehouse Basin to the new Olympic Village near Stratford.

Lathams’ role was to help to define the route, including consideration of water taxi stops in key locations. These include stops at Bartlett Park as well as the historic Three Mills site before reaching Old Ford Lock, the ‘jumping off point’ for the Olympic Park and Village.

Indicative ideas were developed for the taxi stops, designed to be eye catching and dynamic, maximising opportunities for local, regional and national promotion and marketing, as well as ensuring solutions were robust enough to provide a lasting legacy, beyond 2012.
