Increased space for young people’s care home

  • Project: Challenge House, Beeston
  • Client: Heritage Care
  • Contractor: J Tomlinson
  • Scale: 20 bedrooms
  • Value: £1.5m

Challenge House is a care home for severely physically and mentally handicapped young adults, based on a Victorian building within a conservation area.

Our plans for the house meet the current commission for social care inspection standards, with all rooms linked directly to en-suite disabled bathrooms. The existing detached property has been demolished, with a new single-storey extension built, with shared bathrooms and a large communal lounge. A two-storey side extension will offer extra support space, plus an additional bedroom and lounge.

The site had complex planning issues requiring retention of TPO trees and sensitive design locating a large area of high standard care into a residential street context.
