A warm welcome for families in difficult times

  • Project: Billy's House, Nottingham
  • Client: CLIC Sargent
  • Contractor: William Woodsend
  • Scale: Edwardian house with six bedrooms and two kitchens
  • Value: £350k (circa)

Lathams designed Billy’s House for charity CLIC Sargent, with a remit to create a welcoming environment for the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer.

We converted a detached Edwardian house and annex, offering six bedrooms, two kitchens and a mixture of individual rooms and family areas. The design includes a new sunroom with velux rooflights, creating a bright, year-round, energy-efficient space which leads naturally into garden areas landscaped for relaxation and play.

Working within a tightly constrained site footprint, the whole scheme has increased usable space in the buildings by 25%. Our aim throughout was to create an environment for up to six families to live as normally as possible during an incredibly stressful time.
