Designing a bright, attractive place for modern worship

  • Project: Beeston Parish Church
  • Client: PCC of St John the Baptist
  • Contractor: SOL Construction
  • Scale: Refurbishment, repair and re-order
  • Value: ££850,000

Taking the dark and outdated interior of Beeston Parish Church, Lathams created a bright, flexible space for modern worship and community use.

Our approach was sensitive and respectful of the building’s heritage. We removed several existing fixtures, cleaned the ceiling and stonework, added a boarded floor with underfloor heating and constructed a new dais.

A new nave altar table, lectern and ceremonial chairs were commissioned in oak and ebony. We installed a low-energy lighting system to help accentuate the open spaces and newly revealed stone features. The former choir vestry and organ chamber area were transformed into a meeting area and Sunday school room. We also added a new kitchen, storage cupboards and toilet facilities.
