Creating a sustainable future for Highfield House

  • Project: Highfield House, Nottingham
  • Client: The University of Nottingham
  • Contractor: Robert Woodhead Ltd
  • Scale: Restoration and 600sqm extension
  • Value: £2.1m

Highfield House is a Grade II listed building in the grounds of The University of Nottingham. It had been deemed too small for modern use and Lathams was approached to refurbish and extend, giving the house a sustainable, productive future and bringing new relevance and vitality to the listed building and its setting.

Our aim was to create a BREEAM excellent building for postgraduate research use, but which could also be used for events and graduation ceremonies.

We added a 600sqm modernist extension acting as a minimal backdrop to the restoration and carried out a series of gentle refurbishments, all with a view to retaining the essential character of the house. Internal upgrades included lighting, heating, rewiring and decoration.
