Heritage assessment

  • Project: Birmingham Children's Hospital
  • Client: Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Lathams was commissioned to produce a heritage assessment (statement of significance) for this locally listed Nightingale Pavilion hospital complex located within the Steelhouse Lane Conservation Area in the heart of Birmingham city centre.

The site fronts Steelhouse Lane and affects the setting of a number of important listed buildings including the Grade I listed Law Courts and contributes to what is recognised to be the finest late Victorian terracotta street in the country.

Lathams' heritage assessment work was undertaken in order to identify the significance of buildings and internal spaces within the site and to establish a clear hierarchy of value which could be used to inform credible and deliverable intervention options.
