Commissioned by All Saints and Blakenhall Community Development (ABCD), Lathams undertook a comprehensive Urban Development Study in Wolverhampton.
A key objective of the study was to identify a number of opportunity sites within the All Saints area for re-development. These were categorised and prioritised based on their ability to deliver early wins and their potential to bring wider regeneration benefits.
The study area included large tracts of land fronting the Birmingham Canal (Wolverhampton Level), incorporating a high number of semi-derelict heavy industry sites. As part of a broader set of proposals and initiatives, Lathams promoted the re-use of these key sites to provide mixed-use development and opportunities for living, working and leisure next to the water. A new canal basin and moorings were suggested, together with a sculptural bridge crossing to link this site to the towpath and other modes of transport serving the city, including the Metro. The development proposals will ensure that full advantage is taken of the waterside location, enhancing land values and providing significant access and environmental improvements for the local community.
