Lathams has developed an innovative masterplan and achieved planning permission for a renewal of Nottingham’s Stonebridge Park which will provide enduring, high quality, affordable homes in an area previously better known for crime and associated social-economic problems.

The scheme was developed in partnership with stakeholders including LHA-ASRA, Nottingham City Council and the local community in order to create a safe and attractive neighbourhood, with a wide range of quality housing choice, improved community facilities and clearly defined public and private spaces.

By creating character areas within the wider estate, we have helped to preserve and enhance local distinctiveness. Existing houses and public realm have been reorientated to reverse the negative impact of the original Radburn layout (a style based on an ultimately unsuccessful model from 1920s America). New houses have been designed to feature traditional Nottingham red brick and a blue Staffordshire brick detail and render, with the quantity and relationships of these materials carefully varied to achieve a clear and unfussy architectural language.

Houses have been designed to meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (Level 3 for apartments), and to achieve the stringent Lifetime Homes standards. They have been assessed to Silver Standard against the 20 ‘Building for Life’ criteria and developed in accordance with CABE guidance on ‘Creating Successful Neighbourhoods’.
