Stuart Hodgkinson, a director of Derby-based architectural and urban design practice Lathams, has been awarded the prestigious AABC status for work on heritage and listed buildings.
The Register of Architects Accredited in Conservation is an exclusive standard, recognising only 27 other architects in the East Midlands and fewer than 400 across the whole country.
Stuart, who heads Lathams’ design and conservation group, specialises in both the conservation of heritage buildings and also their development and creative re-use for new purposes.
He has recently completed the £1.7m reworking and extension of the Grade II listed Whitworth Centre at Darley Dale and is about to begin the complex job of restoring Tynemouth station on the North East Coast.
Commenting on the award, Stuart said: “While I derive the greatest pleasure from the changing and the making over of old building fabric in order to revitalise it and make it ready for a more certain future, this also entails an enormous amount of research to ensure that correct repair and restoration is carried out.
“It is this detailed and meticulous approach which has been recognized by the AABC register.”
