Lathams is commended at the Waterways Renaissance awards for work on the King's Cross Canal masterplan

On 23rd May 2012, Lathams received two commendations for its work on the King's Cross Canal Fund Masterplan in the Strategy & Masterplanning and Innovation categories at the Waterways Renaissance Awards. The company was awarded with two commemorative plaques at a glittering ceremony which took place at the ICC in Birmingham. The commendations join Lathams' award-winning Erewash Canal Access and Development Strategy in 2010 and the company has also recently won, in May this year, a Premier Heritage Award in the North East for its extensive restoration work at Tynemouth Station.

The King's Cross Canal Fund Masterplan prepared by Lathams outlines details for the development of the 1.8km stretch of the Regent’s Canal, which is either side of the King’s Cross development zone. Lathams was appointed to take on the project by British Waterways London and Argent Group plc.

The purpose of the development project is to revitalise and rejuvenate the area, reawakening public interest and inspiring visitors to the region. The plans include improved access points, better towpath surfacing, clear and distinct signage, additional amenities, enhanced landscaping and improved lighting; all to be done within the context of maintaining and enhancing the existing character and vitality of the Regent’s Canal.
