Held every year in May, the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards are a celebration of everything the North East construction industry has to be proud of.

Over the last eight years the Awards have grown to become one of the highlights of the business year, with over 500 people turning out to witness the best of construction in the North East.

Winners are selected across 14 categories including Innovation, Value, Sustainability and Heritage.

This year there were 14 nominations for the Heritage prize including the Newcastle Theatre Royal restoration and Seaton Delaval Hall. The judges, including English Heritage, decided that the restoration scheme led by LATHAM’s Director Stuart Hodgkinson - Tynemouth Station- was the overall winner, based on criteria of: understanding significance , craftsmanship and liaison with the broader community. Principally funded by Sea Change monies the contractor for the £4m project was Mansell North East with whom LATHAMS developed a wonderful working relationship and a lasting friendship.

The delighted client - Station Developments Ltd – lead by Jim Gray declared that, ‘The project had been the most fulfilling and enjoyable of his career.’
