Planning permission approved for Energy Plus Eco House

The approval under Para 55 of the National Planning Policy Framework, given by Erewash BC Planning Committee (16th October), is for an exceptional and innovative four bedroomed dwelling, to be located in the garden of an existing house situated in a former quarry. The property is just within the Green Belt on the edge of the sustainable settlement of Little Eaton, Derbyshire.

The modern energy plus house, design buries the lower ground floor into a bank, utilising the dry stone retaining walls as its external face, and surmounts this with a sycamore clad service ‘shed’ with kitchen, cloaks and storage, and an open plan living area within an all glass ‘green house’ that replicates the greenhouse of the former kitchen garden. This will be roofed by glazed panels of identical external appearance that variously contain roof windows, solar panels for heating hot water and photovoltaic cells for solar power to drive the heating system and water supply as well as cooking.

The Design and Access Statement which explains all aspects of the concept of the design can be downloaded from here.
