Lathams has won a national award for its work in one of Britain’s best-loved landscapes.
The 2010 Landscape Institute Awards saw Lathams receive a Highly Commended award for its detailed character assessment of the Cotswolds, carried out on behalf of the Cotswolds Conservation Board.
The study, which is designed to help inform decision-makers, local authorities and the public in the management of this quintessentially English landscape, was nominated in the Strategic Landscape Planning category.
Announcing the award, the judges praised the appraisal for showing “comprehensive and thorough use of existing methodology, good integration of contemporary issues associated with climate change and the economic value of landscape”.
Receiving the award for Lathams, chairman Derek Latham said: “This was an extensive assessment undertaken with multiple layers of detail in every square kilometre.
“It was completed in a very short time with an enthusiastic team, some of whom were recruited from the locality of the study.
“We are delighted that the Cotswolds Conservation Board have found it so valuable in underpinning their planning strategy and implementation, and for this to be recognised nationally with this award.”
