Design
Derek is a Regional Representative for CABE in the East Midlands, a founder member of Opun - (East Midlands Architecture and Built Environment Centre) and Chairman of Regeneration East Midlands (Centre for Excellence). Derek was instrumental in setting up the Regional Project Design Review Panel.
He has been Design Adviser to Sheffield Development Corporation, Masterplanner and Co-ordinator for Derby City Challenge (Pride Park), North Eastern Extension and Broad Street in Ely; and Bestwood in Nottingham.
Derek is a Yorkshire Forward Urban Renaissance Panel Member - creating a vision for North East Lincolnshire and masterplanning the South Bay in Scarborough.

Derek has been a masterplanner for new or regenerating communities such as All Saints, Wolverhampton; Meden Valley in the former Nottinghamshire coalfield and for Urban Regeneration in Leeds (Victoria Quarter), Birmingham (Jewellery Quarter) and Manchester (Empress Centre).
Derek has been an External Examiner to Nottingham, Leicester and Oxford Brookes Universities.
Conservation
Before Derek Latham started his own practice in 1980, he set up and ran a new design and conservation department for Derbyshire County Council and was a Chairman of the Technical Panel of the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust, which he advised for 25 years.
He has personally advised clients such as HRH The Prince of Wales. He has undertaken commissioned work for the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, The Royal Household at Windsor, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Lord Shelburn, English Heritage and the National Trust.
