Drawing on extensive experience in the UK and overseas, Chris Twomey is managing director of Lathams, as well as personally leading the housing and education teams.

A highly experienced regeneration professional, Chris built his reputation as a leading specialist in waterside development and urban renewal. He recently prepared the national guidance document entitled ‘England’s Historic Waterways: A working heritage, promoting high quality waterside development’, on behalf of British Waterways and English Heritage.

During his early career, his creative involvement in the regeneration of many of Britain's waterfront towns and cities brought significant environmental improvements, enlivening key areas of public realm - notably the regeneration of waterside destinations in Sheffield, London and Leeds. During this time he also prepared comprehensive waterspace development masterplans to help regenerate under-performing dockland areas, including Swansea, Preston and Gloucester.

Prior to his involvement in large scale urban regeneration projects, Chris spent a year in private practice in Australia, where he designed individual community, residential and commercial buildings in Perth and Sydney.

Joining Lathams in 2003, Chris became a director in 2006 and managing director in 2010. Throughout his work at Lathams, he has used his experience in both large and small-scale regeneration to lead multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects, with a clear focus on place making.

His innovative masterplans, development frameworks and public realm design guides have set the scene for high quality urban renewal in many of Britain’s towns and cities. Alongside these, Chris recently prepared an imaginative Tourism Vision for the Lincolnshire Coast and led on a comprehensive leisure and development strategy for Harlow, focusing on the River Stort.

Chris is currently leading on a number of housing-led development and regeneration projects for both public and private sector clients, including affordable housing projects in Leeds and Manchester, where he is actively promoting innovative and sustainable housing solutions.

Working in the education sector, he leads a team focused on supporting education authorities and senior management teams from project inception to completion. Whether altering, extending or refurbishing an existing facility, creating a new school, or simply providing advice through the Lathams sustainable schools programme, his focus is on helping to create successful learning environments for all.

Chris is the Chair of the East Midlands Design Review Panel and also sits on Nottingham's Design Review Panel, providing expert advice in support of the delivery of sustainable, high quality development across the region.
